Heather Rene Carl – Poem

Fleeting Innocence

She is a child,
Unaware of the nation’s plight.
Oblivious to battles
Fought in worlds not her own.
She lives in innocence,
A normal child.

The world moves fast,
Always changing.
The old replaced by the new.
The past soon forgotten.
She lives in innocence,
A normal child.

Change beckons,
Scratching, gnawing,
Piercing her heart.
A beast of chaos and destruction.
Innocence lost,
No longer a normal child.
