JP Jones – Poem

Christmas, Don’t Come

Christmas, please don’t come this year.
Leave your good tidings and cheer at home.
Let the bells remain silent and allow no bustle
on those city sidewalks. Permit the reds and greens
to remain put away.

Give me this wish, Christmas.

Don’t come this year because I’m in no mood.
No longer a child, there’s no magic about you;
not this year. Please, stay away for my sake.

Christmas, I’ve been good this year, so
Please don’t come. The presents are tainted
by greedy expectations and a gross misunderstanding
of this season long enjoyed by many.

Please Christmas, don’t come.

Stifle those greetings of the season for me.
Spare me the despair of seeing you for now.
Christmas, maybe next year I’ll once again
look forward to your presence.

Christmas, please don’t come.
