While Kentucky may be a little north of the Dixie line, to me it’s all southern. Sharing the same smokey mountain range, the love of dysfunctional/communal family, a good pone of cornbread and the ethereal grace of rain tattering on a trailer’s tin roof of its deeper southern sister states. I was born in Mississippi. A year later my sister was born in Virgina. My paternal grandparents were first and fourth cousins and somehow my father and his siblings managed to come out bearing only one head, ten fingers and two apiece of eyes, ears and appendages.
