It is Ruth Heinold’s 90th birthday. A New Mule — What a fitting tribute to the woman who helped make this whole thing possible!

If ya’ll know me and my mom, you’ll be as happy as we are that she is right here with Rob and me, sitting in the niche she’s carved out for herself, reading Steven Rausch’s book discussing modern myths, Neil Gaiman and Joseph Campbell while telling Thisbe the Cat not to expect to go outside today because it’s raining. Thisbe responds with a “Mao” because she has a Chinese legacy. All three dogs sit at her feet, waiting for her to “drop” some of her peanut butter sandwich. She “drops” food suspiciously close to the dogs… you don’t think… nah, she wouldn’t do that on purpose. When we were kids, we didn’t ever get to feed the dogs people scraps.
